Finally time to release the “Lost in Time” shawl pattern. The name came to me becouse of the vintage feeling it has and also that the time flies by working on this shawl 🙂 This pattern is a repetition of 12 rows which means you can use any yarn or hook and customizing your shawls size by the number of repetitions.
Thank you so much Charlotta Hjortbacken (@charlottahjortbacken on Instagram) and Lisa Cook (@lisasattik on Instagram) for testing this design ❤
This shawl is made of bits and pieces of Scheepjes Catona, a 1oo % cotton yarn, and hook 4.0 mm. The size is aprox 145 cm wing span and 75 cm over the spine, tassels not included. The total amount of yarn is between 6 and 7 skeins of Catona 50 g. For this multi coloured version use the color guide at the bottom of this page.
You can buy the yarn for this version of the shawl via my Amazon US Storefront *. Be sure to look at the color guide below as a reference for yarn quantities.

Hello Mijo from Australia,
Thank you so much for your generous spirit of sharing and your fabulous designs.
I have ordered yarn for Lost in time and have started the project, I used your colour guide but it looks very different to the patten diagrams.
I am up to row 14 but your colours are very different, I only realised because I am using a black & white copy, I hopped on line to check a stitch and noticed your colour scheme is very different from what is written on the colour chart the multi colour version.
Did I get it wrong? I have just been using ginger gold and topaz so far….
I can see that the colours do change but your colours look splendid should I go back…. Hmm
Warm regards
Ingrid

Hi Aisha! I dont do charts anymore because they have been stolen and spread all over the internet in places such as Pinterest and crafting blogs. I hope that you can manage with the written one 🙂

Nu har garnpaketet kommit från Favoritgarner. Härligt Catona-garn i djupa färger.

Johanna your pattern for the Lost in Time shawl is spectacular! I’m a very experienced crochet buff, and this will be the first time I will have made a project for myself…I love the color changes as it has a very Turkish flare to mine. Once I figured out getting started I’ve been working hard to finish it. I did get off track in the early rows which has caused it to curl on me. Should I finish the second repeat and block now before I gather anymore stitches? Please let me know what you would advise moving to the finish line. I think once I block it on the wires it should all work out fine. I hope you are willing to give me your feedback anyhow. What gorgeous work u do!

That is the stitch count, the number of stitches you should have on each side of the shawl after finishing the row. This is so that you can keep track of your stitches.

Hi! Preparing everything to begin with this. I am absolutely in love with the design and color choice and I have tried to stick to it as much as possible since Catona is not available in my country. Question; Is there any video tutorial, either english or spanish to follow it, plus the instructions? I am more visual and I only found one in Turkish!!! Quite hard to follow, besides the lady knits super fast! Thanks for reading me. Greetings from Argentina.

Is it possible to buy a big ball with a gradation of color (in France we call a cake? to avoid changing ball in every color and credit note knots to be made?
where and how To buy the cotton which you use since France?
Thank you in advance for your answer.

Hi Jeanne,
Yes you can use a gradient cake yarn for this pattern, it works out very well. In the blog post I have specified which I have used. I have seen it been made in very many different yarns and I think all work fine. A cake yarn should be about 1000 meters to be enough for the pattern, more if you are a tight crocheter 🙂

I’m using a cake yarn from Lion Brand called Mandala in the Chimera colorway. I bought several cakes of different dye lots in order to get different shades of the same color and cut the colors apart. I’m using a different color for each row and loving the results! Since this yarn is a little rough for my taste, I’ll be washing it with hair conditioner for softening.

It sounds lovely to use that yarn in that way. I have never heard of using hair conditioner, sounds clever 🙂

Hi Mijo!
I just wanted to say “Thank You” for the beautiful pattern. I made 2 as gifts and got so many compliments with them. I’m not going to lie, the pattern scared me in the beginning, I never redone so many times in my life. I thought because I just started crocheting about 2-3 years but I guess I wasn’t the only one who was struggling. Once I got through the 1st repeat it wasn’t so scary anymore. Once again thank you so so much for this beautiful pattern. I’m wishing you all the best, always.
Sincerely,
Ann

Hi!
On my FAQ page is a guideline to keep track of the stitches:
“All rows with single crochets increases with 2 stitches / side and all rows with double crochets increases with 4 stitches / side.”
I hope this helps,
