Lost in Time

Äntligen dags att släppa mönstret till sjalen “Lost in Time”.

Finally time to release the “Lost in Time” shawl pattern. The name came to me becouse of the vintage feeling it has and also that the time flies by working on this shawl 🙂 This pattern is a repetition of 12 rows which means you can use any yarn or hook and customizing your shawls size by the number of repetitions.

  1. Hi Johanna, I have found a youtube tutorial in a language that I am not familiar with. However I was able to follow along and I love this pattern. I am about to start my youtube channel and I would love to start by making the tutorial in english and I could also do it in french, as many comments were requesting it in English-language. I do however live in Quebec and speak french also fluently. I was wondering if we could communicate on the subject. Please contact me thank you and keep creating you are amazing!

    1. I get many questions about making video tutorials with my patterns. I know that many crocheters out there would enjoy that, but at the moment I have to say no to those requests due to my patterns being used inappropriate by others. Im so grateful that so many out there like my designs and want to help me create videos and I hope you understand my dilemma 🌸

      1. I saw one on youtube called the wintershawl, tons of mistakes between the video version and the written pattern on her site. I really cant see any difference between hers and yours. I thought maybe you had given permission for her to make a video with your pattern and changed the name of the shawl. 😦

  2. Absolutely gorgeous! Just as all your other patterns are! I have looked everywhere for this pattern since seeing it on a crochet group a few weeks ago. The Lord has certainly blessed you with a talent for crochet design! Hope to see more wonderful patterns in the future from you! Thank you for creating and posting this pattern. I can’t wait to see how my yarn works up in this delightful design!

  3. Hello,
I have completed the shawl in the original colors and it looks great! Very very beautiful pattern, the final result makes me happy and proud!
I would like to complete it with the tassels as shown in pictures, is there any instruction for making them the same as in the original pattern?

    Thank you

  4. Hi. I want to do your Lost In Time Shawl in the exact colors you did using the colors that Charlotte Hjorbacken used. Can you help me? I have the yarn, I just need to know when to change colors. Thank you for your help. My email address is

  5. I love the name and I love this shawl! It looks incredibly beautiful and I never make myself anything but I may have to break with tradition. Ah. Absolutely wonderful! I love old fashioned things and romantic and this fits the bill. And I have to tell you a big THANK YOU! So many times I see patterns listed and I click on them and it takes me to an Etsy shop and I just can’t afford to buy a pattern for everything I want. You’re incredibly generous to be posting this for free! This would be a cinch for anyone using one of those self striping yarns! Thank you thank you thank you!

  6. The multi colored design is stunning! Do you make these to sell & if so, how much? I don’t crochet but I would love to buy one.

    Thank you!

  7. Do you mind telling us the yarn you used in the secret paths shawls that’s multicolor, yellow blue purple and so on it looks very autumn ish and I want it!!

      1. I only have 46 stitches each side on row 13 so I thought I had done row 12 wrong. Your pattern says 47. On each side I have 3 dc 40 fpdc and 3 dc which is 46

      2. Hi, Nancy! I wonder if you are missing the fpdc in the second dc on the first side and the next-to-last dc on the second side? So–you start row 13 with a ch3 (which counts as the first dc) and then do 2 dc in the first dc, that’s 3. Then you do an fpdc in the second dc. That’s 1. Then you do an fpdc in the next 40 stitches (the five 8 dc groups). That’s 40. Then you do 3dc-ch2-3dc in the ch2 space. That’s the last 3 of the first side and the first 3 of the second side. 40 more fpdc in the five 8 dc groups, 1 fpdc in the next-to-last dc, and 3 dc in the last dc. 3+1+40+3 = 47.

    1. Please do try it. It’s actually quite simple! And a pleasure to make! But if it looks a bit overwhelming then start with the Secret Paths shawl! Equally beautiful and really simple!

      1. Johanna, I would like to know if I can share your patterns on my blog with pictures of my own work in progress and finished piece along with any notes I may have made for my own understanding of the pattern? I
Will of course # you and link back to your blog and original pattern.

  8. Hi I am on my third repeat and my “row22 popcorn /dc row” is an odd number 27 pop corns is this going to throw my pattern out ? When I’ve done the dc 2 ch dc in the next row it doesn’t look like it’s going to finish right ?

  9. Johanna, I’m sure you saw that Lost in Time was the second most crocheted pattern on Revelry last year, as well as the most queued and most commented on for crochet! Congratulations!

      1. You do indeed! And it’s the first thing you see when you go to (oops! I just noticed autocorrect changed “Ravelry” to “Revelry” above)! I’m not surprised. I’m in a lot of crochet groups on Facebook, and people are always showing their Lost in Time shawls, and everyone says “OOH! Where’d you get that pattern?” My LYS is doing a Lost in Time crochet along. And there are more than 2,000 projects on Ravelry! And you DESERVE all the accolades! 🙂 ❤

      2. I’m so glad you got a screen shot, because I went out there the other day, and the home page had changed, and I thought, “WHY DIDN’T I JUST TAKE A SCREEN SHOT???” 😉

  10. I too am a knitter but have fallen in love with your LiT pattern! I have a question: your English version says to repeat rows 15-26. On the original color chart, you have rows 22-24 worked in the same color. Does row 27 start with row 15? If so, the repeated rows would begin on row 34, not row 35. Thanks for your help!

  11. Hi, I’m working on my second lost in time shawl and found I have some small crystal beads that match my whirl yarn perfectly and would add some sparkle! But, I’m not sure which row they would look good in other than the final picot’s. what would you suggest?

  12. I am a knitter and have just taught myself to crochet recently. I mainly wanted to be able to make amigurumi, but after seeing your amazing shawl I wish I could make it too! However reading the pattern is for me like another language, and yes I did download the English one 😂 I hope one day I am experienced enough to give it a go. Thank you for the inspiration!

    1. Please do! It’s actually very simple. The instructions are perfect! But if looks a bit intimidating then start with the Secret Paths shawl. That one is super easy and just as beautiful!

      1. I decided to be brave and give it a try – I have ordered the yarn, just waiting for it to arrive. I’m a little bit excited!!

  13. Dear Johanna, I just want to say thank you, for me this is “THE SHAWL”, a masterpiece and I literally fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. THANK YOU 💗

  14. Oh how I love this pattern, making one for myself right now with a yarn created for my country’s 150 anniversary. Question: Are we allowed to sell items made from your pattern?

  15. Hi ! I love this pattern!! You are great!! I‘d like to translate the italian version. May I? I can maybe sand you….

  16. Hi is there any special way to download your Secret paths or your Lost in Time shawl pattern in English. I’ve tried to download both and nothing happen. Thanks Zaira

  17. I really love your lost in time shawl. Finally got the courage to start it . I have done the first set and am starting the second repeat Its turning out lovely. I have a quick question . on the repeats the number of stitches/spaces increase on each side . ? is that correct for example round 16 28dc and 27 1 ch spaces . whats the increase on the second/ third repeat . Does it double ?

    Thanks in Advance
    Maeve Dunne
