Finally time to release the “Lost in Time” shawl pattern. The name came to me becouse of the vintage feeling it has and also that the time flies by working on this shawl 🙂 This pattern is a repetition of 12 rows which means you can use any yarn or hook and customizing your shawls size by the number of repetitions.
Thank you so much Charlotta Hjortbacken (@charlottahjortbacken on Instagram) and Lisa Cook (@lisasattik on Instagram) for testing this design ❤
This shawl is made of bits and pieces of Scheepjes Catona, a 1oo % cotton yarn, and hook 4.0 mm. The size is aprox 145 cm wing span and 75 cm over the spine, tassels not included. The total amount of yarn is between 6 and 7 skeins of Catona 50 g. For this multi coloured version use the color guide at the bottom of this page.
You can buy the yarn for this version of the shawl via my Amazon US Storefront *. Be sure to look at the color guide below as a reference for yarn quantities.

I am just making the Lost in Time shawl using the Catona Multi-coloured version. I have one question…should I be finishing the one edge with a simple border, as it seems only the two fancy sides actually have a border pattern? It seems from one of the photos that an edge was used in 179 Topaz to finish it nicely. What was the stitch used, please? I cannot tell if it was sc, dc or half-double, and how many rows should be made on this side? I appreciate your assistance.
Thanks so much for creating such a beautiful piece of yarn art! I love it!

Thank you! The pattern leaves the upper side without any edging. But, I made a row of sc on that one because of early design-errors.

This is a beautiful pattern! Thank you so much for making it available to us free of charge. I am making it to give to a dear friend as a prayer shawl. I have just finished the pattern, but I wanted to know how you finish off the edges (the top) of the shawl. Also, how long is the yarn for the tassels and how did you attach them with the beads? I’ve never made them before and I think they actually make a really pretty finish.
LikeLike
Hi Sandy! The pattern doesnt go with a upper edge, but you can make a row of sc if you like to even it out 🙂
If you go to “Tutorials” in the menu you will find a mini guide how to make the tassels 🙂

Hola

Hi! I had a little trouble there, too, and couldn’t figure it out. If it helps, I just ended up fudging it and adding a stitch to get the correct counts. Just make sure you do it the same way each time you repeat that part of the pattern to preserve continuity. 🙂

Thank you. I am having a count problem too. I will just add an extra a the beginning and ends to make it right. I’ve watched the video in a foreign language withe the English pattern and made it so far. But I will go back to row 13 and start from there knowing there might be “fudging” to be done.

I have looked at hundreds of shawl patterns in crochet and have just finished my fourth shawl. They are my favorite item to make and I am always on the lookout for them–the more intricate, the better. This shawl in the multi-colors is absolutely the most beautiful I have seen. I am going to order the yarn you used, which I don’t often do, but I want the same slinky, smooth, result you have obtained. The fact that you are giving this pattern away is incredibly generous. It is a work of art and must have taken a goodly amount of time, even for one as talented and full of imagination and romance as you. On behalf of all of us who are living in the wrong century, I thank you dearly.

I[”m confused with pattern Lost in Time: Row 13 called for front post crochet and Row 14 calls for back post crochet. The pictures show back post crochet in both rows. Which is correct?

The pattern is correct, the picture shows the shawl from the right side. Since you work the front posts from the back side the ridge appear on the front side.

Hej Hanna!
Jag förstår inte riktigt hur du menar. Du gör bara stolpar (8) i 2-lm-bågen mellan stolparna i varv 1. På varv 3 lyfter du upp 5-lm-bågen med två fastmaskor.

Hello,
I just started to make your ‘lost in time scarf’ and following your multi colour plan. However I have a question about the colours in the first 14 rows, because I have to change between 383 and 179 which are the orange and yellow type of colour but if I look at the pictures in the pattern explanation they are different, is it that the pictures are not related to those rows?
Thank you for your help in advanced.

This is beautiful! and I just love, love, LOVE working with Scheepjes Catona! Though it’s more difficult for me to get (international order) – it’s well worth the effort! Purchased some recently for another project and am ‘hooked’ on it now. Guess that means I’ll have to order more – because I do plan on making this Lost in Time Shawl…just lovely!
Thank you for sharing this pattern with us! It is so appreciated when designers such as yourself share so freely with the rest of us. I find it rather upsetting that you design this beautiful project – and share it for FREE with all of us – and there are still some who will find something to complain about! Ladies, stop your complaining and start appreciating what has been shared with you – for FREE!
If you don’t like it, don’t do it! But DON’T complain about what might be a minor inconvenience to you to someone who spent her time and effort to give you such beauty!
Goes back to what my Mom used to say to me – if you can’t say something nice, then keep your mouth shut and don’t say ANYTHING!

Hello!
I just began this beautiful shawl and there’s an error in the french version, row 4:
To finish the row, we should have “…to the 3rd last dc, 1ch, skip 1dc, 1dc+1ch+1dc in the 3rd ch in the beginning of previous row”
But it’s written (in french) “…to the 4th last dc, 1ch, skip 1dc, 1dc in the 3rd ch in the beginning of previous row”
Correction en français:
“Jusqu’à la 3ème bride avant la fin du rang précédent, 1 ml, sauter une bride, 1 bride+1 ml+1 bride dans la 3è ml du début du rang précédent.”
😉
