Lost in Time

Finally time to release the “Lost in Time” shawl pattern. The name came to me becouse of the vintage feeling it has and also that the time flies by working on this shawl 🙂 This pattern is a repetition of 12 rows which means you can use any yarn or hook and customizing your shawls size by the number of repetitions.

Thank you so much Charlotta Hjortbacken (@charlottahjortbacken on Instagram) and Lisa Cook (@lisasattik on Instagram) for testing this design  ❤

This shawl is made of  bits and pieces of Scheepjes Catona, a 1oo % cotton yarn, and hook 4.0 mm. The size is aprox 145 cm wing span and 75 cm over the spine, tassels not included. The total amount of yarn is between 6 and 7 skeins of Catona 50 g. For this multi coloured version use the color guide at the bottom of this page.

You can buy the yarn for this version of the shawl via my Amazon US Storefront *. Be sure to look at the color guide below as a reference for yarn quantities.

    1. Im not familiar with the Paton yarns but bamboo and silk should be great for this pattern. Im actually making one in alpacka/silk and hook 3.5 mm at the moment 😄

  1. Great shawl! Do you have drawing pattern? I’m crochet beginner and I have problem with reading this one, it’ll probably take me a while to handle with it 😦 It’s ok for me to get a part of each row, can you send it to me? I would be grateful 🙂
    Thanks!

  5. Hi I am having g a slight difficulty at row 13. I keep ending up with 46 stiches/side only. And I have no idea why. Can you help me?

    Like

      1. I realise I always have a problem at that row. Even at row 25. Instead of having 87 dc I end up with 86. Similar to row 13. The previous row I have 10 groups of 8dc. Then chain 3 and 2dc in the 1st stitch. After tat fp all the way and then 3 dc and chain 2 and 3dc. Which makes it 86. Where does the extra stitch come in?

      2. I think you’ve missed a stitch in your english instructions. I too have the same problem. Reading into the next row and looking at the pictures I can see where the missing stitch is supposed to go, but it isn’t in your instructions. If what I think is correct, it should be ch3, 2dc in first st, 1dc in next, then on to the fpdc. This is what is indicated to me from your pictures from row 14, picture one you can clearly see that there is supposed to be 4 dc’s there before your ‘fan’.

      3. Hi!
“3 ch, 2 dc in 1:st dc. 1 fp dc in every dc to the second last dc
        on the side.”
This is the first line of row 13. It says fp dc in every dc, that includes the ones before the “fan” too 🙂
Im not sure if its row 13 you refer to though 😉

      4. yes that is the right row we are talking about. Yes, it ends up being only 46 stitches per side with those instructions, because
        8 stitches x 5 “groups” = 40, then
        40 + 3-chain (aka: 1st double crochet of row) + 2 dc in 1st dc = 43, then
        43 + 3 dc in 2-chain space = 46.

Please reply soon, so we can move forward with our work! Thank you so much.

      5. If you work dc’s in the dc’s before the first shell you will get the right stitch count, I promise. You should not skip any dc in the previous row 🙂

      1. Hello. Is 1 whirl exactely enough? What needle did you use for the whirl? And is there a gauge ?? Thanks so much. I have my Whirl here on my table ready to start!

      2. Yes, one whirl is enough 🙂 Lisa, who made the shawl in that yarn used hook 3.5 mm. Since I didnt make it I cant provide a gauge. Though you repeat rows so you can alter your shawls size by adding rows 🙂

  6. I fell in love with this shawl the minute I saw it. So beautiful. Do you have a color chart that matches the color order used in the pictures that are in the US pattern? The order in the pictures is different from what is written in the Multicolor chart. Thank you!

    1. Hi! Its the same shawl in the pictures as in the multicolour chart. I just took the photos on a different row 🙃

  11. Hi there! Soooooo beautiful – this is my first shawl and I am totally in love with your pattern – thank you so much!
May I ask a quick question about Row23? I seem to keep getting 1 more 2chsp than I should have.
If row 22 finishes with 20dc each side, and row 23 calls for (1dc+2chsp+1dc) in each dc, I’m therefore getting 20 2chsp….not 19 as I should? Should I skip the 1st dc from the finishing (1dc+1chsp+1dc) of row22 maybe?
Any advice would be so appreciated – this seems like the simplest row but the one I keep getting wrong! Thank you so much x

    1. Hi! You start with ch 4 and then 1 dc+2 ch+ 1 dc in next dc. This means that you dont make a 2-ch-space in the very first stitch and the same goes with the very last dc of the row.
      I hope this helps 😊

  12. Hello! I can’t wait to get started on this shawl! I’m new to color changes, but I’m going to attempt to use the same colors as your multi colored version. Did you break your yarn on every row and weave in all the ends or did you carry some colors down the rows?

  13. Hello, I have made the mistake of using the wrong size hook and therefore my shawl is too small!! Please advise on another combination to do another 12 rounds. I am using your original colours. Would really appreciate the help.

  16. I’m so stuck on row 22. I’ve already completed it and pulled it out 3 times, so I’m just ready to quit and move on to another project. How can row 22 have 18 popcorn and 20 DCs (for 38 total stitches) per side when the previous row only had 36 stitches per side? Every time I follow the 1 ch, DC in next SC, 1 ch, popcorn in next SC, I end up with 16 popcorn and 20 DCs. This is so incredibly frustrating.

    Like

    1. Hi! You make your first popcorn in the second sc of previous row and the last popcorn in the last sc of previous row. In the first and last sc of previous row you have 2 dc’s with a ch between.
