The Terra Mater (Mother Earth) Shawl is a luxurious, large and lacy shawl with a eye catching fringe. It’s a triangular shawl that will keep you warm while looking gorgeous. It can also be used as a beach cover up around your hips!
This pattern is made out of repetitions of 12 rows, which makes the size easy to costumize. If you don’t want a fringe the pattern provides you with an alternative finish.

Yarn:
To make my blue and brown subtly glittery Terra Mater Shawl I used a yarn cake from Magic Yarn Ball called Terra (you can change the page to English in the upper right corner).
Magic Yarn Ball (4 strands + 1 effect strand, 50% Cotton/50% Acrylic, 250g/1000m), color Terra/Earth.

The Magic Yarn Ball I used is made out of 4 strands and one effect strand so it is heavier than Scheepjes Whirl and I used a 4mm hook for it. You can use Scheepjes Whirl for this pattern with a smaller hook but as I have not made it in that yarn I'm not sure if a cake will be enough. You might need a matching Whirlette to get the size you want. You can easily make extra repetitions if the shawl needs more with the thinner yarn. The outcome will be great, I just don't know the exact yardage you will need.

Hi Johanna, This is Paula, I am going to buy this Terra Mater shawl pattern. Question though, The website in Greece, ordering the yarn “Terra”, do I need to add the glitter effect, or is it automatic with the 4 strand 1000m? It lists 4 strands plus Kordelino (is that the glitter effect 5th strand)? thanks so much!

You don’t need to put something extra to the Terra yarn, the kordelino strand is the one with a shimmering effect 🙂
