Treasure Bag

The Treasure Bag is a highly versatile bag that can be made in any size that fit your needs. The shoulder strap is crocheted in a way so it does not stretch, and the bag can be carried on your shoulder, across the chest or in your hands depending on how long you make the straps. The bag is stretchy but not flimsy and it fits more than you think in it! The edge of the bag is also crocheted to be dense and to pull the bag together at the top.

Pattern:

Pattern features:

  • Written pattern in English (US and UK terminology), Danish, Dutch, German, Greek, Japanese, Slovak, Spanish and Swedish.
  • Photo tutorials to show the neccesary steps of the pattern.
  • Directions how to customize the size.
  • Stitch count.

Stitches used in this pattern (US terms):

Chain, slip stitch, single crochet, double crochet, Invisible join (instructions in the pattern), stitches in back loop only and stitches in front loop only.

Sizes:

The Treasure Bag can be made in three different sizes; small, medium and large. The pattern gives you instructions how to make these three sizes with three different kinds of yarn. But you can also change the size of the bag by using thinner or thicker yarn. For example, if you like the large bag to be even bigger you can make it with a thicker yarn than the pattern suggest, or if you like the medium bag to be a little smaller you can make the medium size with a thinner yarn.

The bag will have the following approx. measurements if you use the same yarn and hook as suggested in the pattern.

Small: Width 30cm, edge width 20cm, length 27cm and bottom 20cm in diameter.

Medium: Width 38cm, edge width 24cm, length 32cm and bottom 24cm in diameter.

Large: Width 50cm, edge width 30cm, length 40cm and bottom 30cm in diameter.

Yarn and hooks:

You can use any yarn you like for these bags and the yarns listed below are just suggestions. I have used different fibers and weights to show how different colors and fibers look worked out.

I do suggest you use a yarn that is not elastic. Cotton or linen yarns work great for these kinds of bags.

Small bag (including shoulder strap):

Yarn: 3 x Drops Bomull-Lin (53% Cotton, 47% Linen; 50g/85m), uni colour 05.

Hook: 4.0mm, 4.5mm and 5.0mm.

Medium bag (including shoulder strap):

Yarn: Drops Paris – Recycled Denim (100% cotton, 50g/75m, 250g/200m, Oeko-Tex® certified).

1 x color 100, 2 x color 102 and 3 x color 103.

The color changes are noted in the pattern.

Hook: 4.5mm, 5.0mm and 5.5mm.

Large bag:

Note: The amount of yarn is only for the bag and not the shoulder strap. I have used a shoulder strap from an old bag to finish off the large bag. If you like to crochet the shoulder strap you will need another skein of yarn.

Yarn: 2 x DMC Nova Vita 4 Recycled (80% Recycled Cotton, 20% Polyester, 250g/200m, Oeko-Tex® certified), color 0108. Hook: 5.5mm, 6.0mm and 6.5mm.

  1. Why would a pattern not include all yarn amounts for pictured item? Otherwise why show bag with crocheted strap?

    1. Hi, the pattern includes all yarn amounts needed. It clearly says that the large bag is made with 2 skeins and a vegan leather strap. If you like to crochet the strap you would need another skein 🙂

    2. I think you misread the post… The wording might be confusing with a quick read but she didn’t leave anything out

  2. I was going to make this with a mix of Jute and acrylic yarn crocheted together. Good idea? Will it work or look tacky?
