The Dragon Belly shawl is slighty asymmetric and is crocheted back and forth, from one side to the other. I call this shawl Dragon Belly because it’s texture reminds me of how dragon bellies often look in children’s stories, don’t you agree?
You can decide how big to make your Dragon Belly by the number of rows you make, therefore you can use any yarn you like. The Dragon Belly above is made with Scheepjes Whirl (colour 761, hook 3.5 mm). The size is aprox 170 x 120 x 100 cm (unblocked) and the last color of the cake was not used.

Love the look of those little “belly” rows. I’m currently making my first attempt at a shawl (until now I’ve only done amigurumi and thin scarves) with this pattern. Pleasantly surprised that after the first few rows, there are only two repeating rows that are easy to memorize. Lovely pattern, and you’re incredible for sharing it with all of us~ I’ve also purchased a few of your patterns on Ravelry to add to the queue. Thanks for designing these beauties!

Thanks for this lovely pattern. Do you know how I can adapt it to make a dragon belly baby blanket ? I am using baby blossom which is lovely in this stitch. Thank you very much!

Hi and thank you!
You can make a chain and just repeat the pattern without any increases 🙂
Kind regards,
