All Colours Mandala

image

This was my very first own crochet pattern that I made a few years ago. I shared a photo of my handwritten notes on Instagram and some people have made this mandala from my less-than-great notes. I thought it was time to write it down properly now when I bought myself a laptop (havn’t got an computer since january!).

Anyway, here are the stitches used in this pattern:

Ch – chain

Sc – single crochet

Dc – double crochet

Slst – slip stitch

Surface stitches

Start every round with 2 ch (=1 dc) and finish every round with a slst in second ch.

  1. 12 dc in a magic ring (or in a 4-ch-ring if you prefer)
  2. 2 dc in each dc all way round.
  3. [1 dc in dc, 2 dc in next dc] repeat all way round.
  4. [1dc in dc, 2 ch, skip one stitch] repeat all way round.
  5. Work this row behind row 4 and make your stitches in row 3. (You can fold row 4 against you while working row 5). 1dc in any dc of row 3, 2 ch, skip one stitch. Repeat [1 dc, 2 ch, skip one stitch] all way round.
  6. [1 dc in dc from row 4, 2 dc in ch-space] repeat all way round.
  7. [1 dc in next two dc, 2 dc in next dc] repeat all way round.
  8. As row 4.
  9. As row 5.
  10. As row 6.
  11. Make surface stitches on top of row 10. You make surface stitches by doing slst between the dc´s of row.
  12. 1 dc in each dc of row 10.
  13. As row 4.
  14. As row 5.
  15. Work this row behind row 14 and make your stitches in row 13. [1 dc in dc from row 13, 1 dc in ch-space, 1 dc in dc, 2 dc in ch-space] repeat all way round.
  16. As row 11 on top of row 15.
  17. As row 12.
  18. As row 4.
  19. As row 5.
  20. As row 15. (
  21. Make surface stitches on top of row 20.
  22. [Skip one stitch, 1 dc, 1 dc in the skipped stitch] repeat all way round (crossed dc´s). You may also make 1 dc in each dc if you prefer.
  23. As row 4.
  24. [1 dc in dc, 1 dc in ch-space, 1 dc in dc, 1 dc in ch-space, 1 dc in dc, 2 dc in ch-space] repeat all way round.
  25. As row 11 on top of row 24.
  26. (Border) [7 dc in dc, skip 2 dc, 1 sc in dc, skip 2 dc] repeat all way round.

Done! I hope you enjoy this pattern 🙂

  1. Hello Johanna, what a beautiful pieces of art you make! 😍
I love the All Colour Mandala.
But I have no idea how to crochet row 5 at the back of row 3.
How do I Insert my hook? As normal?
And after crocheting row 5 in row 3, in row 6 I go on in row 4.
So I just leave the stitches at the back of row 3 and do not attach them?
I searched the web and YT, but I could not find any explanation.
So I hope You can help me.
    Thanks in advance. ☺️

    1. Hi and thank you!

Yes, you inser your hook as normal and work you stitches in the unworked stitches of row 3.
Then you work row 6 in the dc’s of row 4 and through the ch-sps of both row 4 and 5.

      I hope this helps 🙂
This was my very first pattern and it would really need a face lift 😉

      Have a nice weekend,

      Johanna
